Yak & Yeti Restaurant

Some how Yak & Yeti at Disney's Animal Kingdom has always managed to fly under our radar (possibly because we are huge fans of both Tusker House and Flame Tree Barbecue and have a hard time passing either of them up lol.) On our past trip we just weren't ready to head back to Animal Kingdom Lodge and admit we would be leaving the next morning, so we managed to snag a last minute dinner at Yak & Yeti! And we are kinda glad we did!
The restaurant itself is actually a lot better than the food in my opinion. I could look at the artifacts all day! During the day I can imagine that our second story table would have had a beautiful view of Asia, but it was late and all we could really see was the occasional light up Mickey Mouse bubble wand.
We ordered a Pink Himalayan, which is: Tanqueray Gin, Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice, Passion Fruit and Lemon Grass Flavors, with a salted rim. Which was really good! For entrees we ordered the Coconut Shrimp: which was a pretty standard coconut crusted shrimp served with a huge side of jasmine rice and stir-fried vegetables. The real star of this dish was the Plum BBQ sauce, it's delicious! And the Kobe Beef Burger; which is a 10oz grilled Kobe Beef Burger with sesame-soy mayonnaise, and shoestring fries. For a $20 burger, it just wasn't all that. It could have benefited from some Plum BBQ sauce, but I had already licked the bowl clean.
For me, even if the meal is a little underwhelming, I still give a restaurant a chance to redeem themselves with my favorite; the dessert! Unfortunately that just didn't happen here. We got the fried wontons: which are skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons served with vanilla ice cream. These are okay, but didn't blow my mind. Definitely a great dessert if you want something sweet but don't love "sweets." And the Pineapple Upside Down Cake: which is served with vanilla ice cream, drizzled with caramel sauce. This was the better of the two desserts, but definitely not a memorable dessert. It was nice because the cake was warm, the ice cream was cold, at the pineapple was a little tart, and the caramel gave it a nice little sweet note, but it's not making my list of best desserts at Disney.
All in all, I won't say we won't be back to give it a second chance, but it likely will be a few trips before we do that!
