War Eagle Caverns

War Eagle Cavern on Beaver Lake is one of our favorite caves to tour in Arkansas! It's the largest cavern in Northwest Arkansas and we love that it stays a consistent 58 degrees year-round. This is especially wonderful during the warmer times of the year!

The stroll along the bluff of Beaver Lake to the cave opening is very beautiful! We've visited around August and the lake was just booming with huge fish and we've seen a fox or two. This trip it was pretty chilly and the lake was very low, so we didn't see much - except for the beautiful nature landscape - which just can't be beat!
Navigating the cavern is very easy and you never feel confined, which is a plus for me - I do not do well in tight spaces. I love that the guides share little details about the history of the cavern, such as stories of moonshiners and Frank and Jesse James who used the cavern over the years! How they used the cavern for filming Frank and Jesse with Bill Paxton and Rob Lowe. Our guide even showed us where people have signed the cave wall going back hundreds of years.
War Eagle Cavern is home to over 100,000 bats which makes me a little uncomfortable, but you seriously don't see one mosquito in this cavern lol. It was amazing and, again, a little uncomfortable how close we were able to get to them. A few times I didn't even realize one was right next to my head.
When the tour concludes you have an opportunity to go down the bluff and get a little closer to Beaver Lake. The water level was so low compared to previous years we've visited, but it was still beautiful.
There's a really fun little setup where you can pan for gemstones and the Moonshiners' Mystery Shack, which are great family friendly activities! If you're feeling adventurous they offer spelunker tours mid July through early November.
Each trip we've made has seen this cavern change and grow and it seems like each time we visit our guide has a story about how they have found that the cavern goes even further. We hope to continue to see how far back this cavern goes. If you are in the Rogers, Arkansas area, this is definitely worth a visit!
